Managing the termination of a luxury goods distribution relationship.
Terminating a cross-border commercial relationship requires a clear understanding of the legal framework in the market where the local partner operates, particularly when an established distribution relationship is involved.
In this matter, the Dutch branch of a Swiss luxury watch brand sought advice on the termination of its commercial relationship with a Belgium-based jewellery store.
The project was led by DLN member Tessa de Mönnink (the Netherlands), working in close cooperation with Sandrine Kinart (Belgium) to assess the termination from both the client’s existing commercial perspective and the applicable Belgian legal framework.
This coordinated approach provided the client with the local legal expertise needed to evaluate the implications of the termination and define an appropriate strategy for bringing the relationship to an end.
The project illustrates how DLN members work across jurisdictions to help international businesses manage changes to their European distribution networks with a clear understanding of local legal risks.
